SEC opens the door to bitcoin ETFs with yield and a floor

Circle adds a New York trust charter on top of its federal one
USDC issuer Circle secured a limited purpose trust charter from New York regulator NYDFS on 31 July, three weeks after final federal approval from the OCC. The issuer of the second-largest stablecoin now sits under dual US supervision. For European holders, nothing changes legally.
Kulipa shuts down abruptly: 120,000 crypto cards dead overnight
Paris-based card issuer Kulipa ceased operations on 29 July, four months after a 6.2 million dollar seed round. More than 120,000 cards from around twenty partners, including Solflare and Ready, stopped working from one day to the next. Users' balances survived — thanks to one architectural choice.
Revolut drops USDT in Europe: balances convert on 31 August
Revolut stopped selling USDT on 6 July and closed deposits on 30 July. On 31 August at 12:00 GMT remaining balances convert automatically into euros. The reason is article 23 of MiCA: an authorised CASP may not offer a stablecoin whose issuer holds no European authorisation of its own.
Coldcard flaw: 594 bitcoin drained from 500 wallets in 25 minutes
A build setting in the Coldcard Mk3 firmware made the device skip its own randomness chip, leaving private keys guessable. Attackers took 594 bitcoin, roughly 38 million dollars (roughly €33.3 million), from about 500 wallets. The Mk4, Q and Mk5 are unaffected.
Bitcoin rebounds to 62,931 dollars, but August is weakest

DeFi loses 11.5 percent in a day, and that is not the worst part
The market value of DeFi tokens fell 11.5% in 24 hours to 61.8 billion dollars, roughly €54.1 billion. What sits underneath matters more: TVL in DeFi dropped from around 115 billion dollars in January to some 70 billion in June, and 942 million dollars has already been lost across 121 hacks this year. Stablecoins, by contrast, are growing.
BitMart shuts after nine years, without a MiCA safety net
BitMart is winding down in three steps: trading ends on 26 August, the platform shuts on 31 January 2027. Withdrawals are slow, the former chief executive says he read about the decision in the news, and the exchange held no MiCA authorisation. For European customers that means no segregated custody and no complaints channel.
Licensed exchanges hand out bonuses brokers may not offer
Since MiCA's transitional period closed on 1 July, four licensed exchanges have been competing for the same European client with deposit bonuses, cashback and prize draws. ESMA has prohibited exactly that for CFD providers since 2018. MiCA contains no equivalent ban, and that gap is now being used in plain sight.
Capital moves from bitcoin ETFs into ethereum ETFs
US bitcoin ETFs shed 3,170 BTC last week, or 200.23 million dollars (roughly €175 million), while ethereum ETFs took in 37,959 ETH: 71.17 million dollars (roughly €62 million). Morgan Stanley listed an ether ETF on 28 July with the cheapest fee in the US market. Ethereum turns eleven on 30 July.
Fed holds rates steady, but three governors wanted a hike
The Fed left its target range unchanged at 3.50 to 3.75 per cent on 29 July, but three voting members wanted a 25 basis point increase. Bitcoin briefly touched 64,500 dollars (roughly €56,438) before handing most of that back. Around 322 million dollars (roughly €282 million) in crypto positions was liquidated.

Binance app disappears from Google Play in parts of the EU
In Spain the Binance app can no longer be found on Google Play; in Poland it still can. The removal follows the end of the MiCA transitional period on 1 July, after which Binance suspended its EU services. Withdrawals still work, new orders and deposits do not.
MiCA knowledge rules for crypto staff become binding

Which exchanges you may still legally use in Europe
Since 1 July 2026 there is no grandfathering left. ESMA's register counted 309 authorised CASPs on 24 July, but only a handful of those are retail trading venues. Binance, Gemini and KuCoin are not among them.
Brussels puts fourteen crypto platforms on the sanctions list

Morgan Stanley lists two staking ETFs and undercuts the field

Duma passes crypto law: exchanges under the central bank
On 21 July the Duma approved the long-awaited crypto law: five authorisation categories under the Bank of Russia, annual purchase limits for ordinary investors and a ban on paying with crypto inside the country. The main rules take effect on 1 September 2026.
Wall Street arms bitcoin against quantum with 15 million
