On-ramp provider MoonPay has added the Discover network to its payment options. Discover cardholders can now buy and sell crypto directly — from Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP and Solana to HYPE and thousands of other tokens.

All three major card networks

With this move, MoonPay now supports all three major US card rails: Visa, Mastercard and Discover. For millions of Discover users, a barrier disappears: they can buy crypto with the card already in their wallet, without first detouring through a separate exchange.

Why it matters

The biggest hurdle for new users is usually not the technology but the on-ramp: the bridge from ordinary money into crypto. By building that bridge into a trusted card network, MoonPay makes the first purchase far more approachable. It fits a broader trend of crypto moving ever closer to mainstream payments.

What does it mean for Europe?

The expansion initially targets the United States. Still, the direction matters for European users: card on-ramps like MoonPay operate here too, and integrations like this show how buying with a debit or credit card is becoming the norm. Note, though, that in the EU, providers of crypto services follow their own rules under MiCA.

Caveat

Buying with a card is easy, but often not the cheapest: on-ramps typically charge higher fees than a direct purchase on an exchange. Handy for small amounts and newcomers; if you're buying larger sums, compare the costs first.
