The story

Kraken was founded in 2011 by Jesse Powell, partly in response to the Mt. Gox collapse, and grew into one of the longest-running exchanges in the world — without ever suffering a major hack. In Europe it has operated under a MiCA licence from the Central Bank of Ireland since 2025; derivatives run through a separate MiFID entity. Kraken stands for compliance-first, deep liquidity and professional tools.
