Calculated with each provider's taker rate and the cost of a SEPA withdrawal to your bank. Any spread in the price is not included: where a provider charges one, this is noted. Where withdrawal fees are not published, the calculator counts them as zero.
Tax on your sale
Choose your country to see the rate, exemption and holding period that apply when you sell at a profit. In 23 of the 27 EU countries, a gain on a sale can be taxed. In the others, a sale is generally tax-free, your holdings are taxed rather than your gain (the Netherlands), or the rule has not yet been settled.
This is not tax advice. Rules depend on your personal situation and change over time; if in doubt, check your own country's source or ask an adviser.
How to sell crypto for euros
Sell for euros
At your provider, choose a trading pair with the euro, such as BTC/EUR, and sell. On a trading platform you pay the taker rate shown in the calculator; in an app with a fixed price, there is also a spread built into the price.
Withdraw to your bank account
Request a euro withdrawal to your own account. With OKX and Bybit, you first deposit from the account you want to withdraw to, and Crypto.com only pays out after a first deposit. At Kraken, withdrawals can be blocked for up to 72 hours after a purchase made with a card or PayPal.
Keep your statements
Download your provider's transaction history or annual statement. You need it for your tax return, and your bank may ask where money in your account comes from: that is set out in the European anti-money laundering rules.
Remember your tax return
Since 1 January 2026, crypto providers in the EU have been recording annual totals per coin for each customer for the tax authority (DAC8); they report the figures for 2026 for the first time in 2027. You still file your own tax return: the report does not replace it.
Questions about selling crypto
How long does it take for the money to reach my account?
It varies by provider, from a few minutes to several business days. Finst usually quotes a few minutes, OKX instantly to 2 business days and Kraken 0 to 5 business days. The calculator above shows what each provider states itself.
Do I have to pay tax when I sell crypto?
That depends on your country. In most EU countries, a gain on a sale can be taxed. The Netherlands does not tax individual sales: its box 3 tax looks at what you own on 1 January, and euros in your bank account count towards that too.
Which is cheaper: selling in an app or on a trading platform?
On a trading platform you pay the taker rate and see the price from the order book. In an app with a fixed price, you often pay a higher fee or a spread: the regular Kraken app charges 1% and its price includes a spread, and at OKX, ‘Sell’ or ‘Convert’ in the app charges a spread instead of the spot trading fee.
Can my bank ask where the money comes from?
Yes. Under the European anti-money laundering rules, a bank monitors payments into your account and can ask about the source of funds. So keep the purchase and sale statements from your provider: they let you show where the money came from.
Does my provider report my sale to the tax authority?
Yes. Since 1 January 2026, providers have been recording this (DAC8), and they report it once a year: not individual transactions or gains, but annual totals per coin, meaning what you paid and received, how many coins and how many transactions. They report for the first time in 2027, covering 2026.
