What it means
Enter your best share.
What a best share is not
A best share measures how much work you have done, not how far you have come. Every hash is a separate throw at the same odds; nothing accumulates. If you are at 40 per cent of the network difficulty, you are not 40 per cent of the way there — you are not on your way at all, because there is no way to be on.
What the figure does do: it is an honest measure of your total work, and so the only scoreboard solo miners have. Your best share climbs the longer you keep running. That is exactly what it is meant to do.
How this is worked out
The percentage is your share divided by the network difficulty. Rarity is 1 divided by your share: the chance that a single attempt at difficulty 1 produces this share or better. The waiting times are difficulty × 2³² divided by your hashrate — the standard formula for the expected time to a hash that meets a target.
