Bitcoin slides toward 62,000 dollars as US presses Iran
Crypto opens lower on 14 July: bitcoin -2.3% to ~62,300 dollars (roughly €57,500), ethereum to ~1,774 dollars. Sentiment stays in extreme fear as investors track US-Iran tensions.
The crypto market opened lower on Tuesday 14 July. Bitcoin trades around 62,300 dollars (roughly €57,500), some 2.3% below Monday's opening price, after a breakout attempt above 64,000 dollars failed earlier this week. Ethereum slipped 1.8% to about 1,774 dollars. Total crypto market capitalisation fell 1.5% to roughly 2.23 trillion dollars.
Geopolitics weighs on the market again
The immediate trigger is familiar territory this summer: Washington is ramping up pressure on Iran to return to the negotiating table. Traditional markets also shifted into a defensive stance, and risk assets like crypto typically react most strongly. It is the same dynamic that rattled the market earlier this month after the US strike on Iran.
Market sentiment remains stuck in ‘extreme fear’ — check our live market regime gauge for the current state of trend, breadth and sentiment.
Support above 62,000 dollars holds for now
Technically the picture is not purely negative: bitcoin is holding firmly above the support zone around 62,000 dollars. As long as that holds, the decline looks more like a breather in a nervous market than a new capitulation. Below it, the June lows come back into view.
For ethereum the situation is more fragile: the coin closed three consecutive red quarters and trades close to the levels where it appeared to find a bottom in June.
What can you do with this?
For long-term investors, a geopolitical news day changes little. Periodic buyers (DCA) automatically buy cheaper in weeks like these. If you trade more actively, this is a market where risk management — smaller positions, no leverage on headlines — matters more than being right.
