Wall Street has a new first. T. Rowe Price, the asset manager with roughly 1.9 trillion dollars (roughly €1.66 trillion) under management, launched the T. Rowe Price Active Crypto ETF (TKNZ) on NYSE Arca on July 16 — according to the firm, the world's first actively managed multi-token spot crypto ETF.

What's inside?

Unlike existing crypto ETFs, TKNZ does not track a fixed index: managers can actively adjust the portfolio to market conditions. At launch, bitcoin weighed 40.75%, followed by ether (18.42%), BNB (11.01%), solana (9.44%), XRP (9.37%) and Hyperliquid (6.45%), plus stellar, dogecoin and a cash position. The fund will normally hold between five and fifteen assets.

Fees and management

Portfolio manager is Blue Macellari, who has led T. Rowe Price's digital asset work since 2022. The management fee is 0.75% (temporary waiver until May 2027, then 0.90%). The fund went live with about 15 million dollars (roughly €13 million) in initial assets.

Why it matters

After the spot bitcoin and ethereum ETFs, this is the next step in the institutionalization of crypto: a renowned active manager selecting tokens within a single listed product. It shows traditional asset managers increasingly treat crypto as a full asset class — and it opens the door for similar products from competitors.
