Bitcoin climbs to 65,000 dollars as US inflation comes in soft
Bitcoin and ethereum jump on Wednesday after a softer US inflation reading. BTC nears 65,000 dollars, ETH gains over 6%. Total crypto market cap grows to 2.3 trillion dollars.
The crypto market is clearly in rally mode on Wednesday 15 July. Bitcoin climbed above 65,000 dollars and trades around 65,030 dollars (roughly €59,800), a gain of more than 4% versus Tuesday. Ethereum is doing even better, up more than 6% and trading around 1,891 dollars (roughly €1,740). Total crypto market capitalisation grew from 2.23 trillion dollars to roughly 2.3 trillion dollars.
Soft inflation data pushes the market higher
The immediate trigger is US macro data: June CPI came in at 3.5% year-on-year, well below the expected 3.8% and a sharp drop from 4.2% a month earlier. On a monthly basis CPI even fell 0.4% — the largest decline since April 2020. Softer inflation fuels hopes of looser rate policy, which typically acts as a tailwind for risk assets like crypto.
Japan as an extra catalyst
Alongside the inflation data, regulatory news from Japan is also playing a role: a parliamentary committee there took an important step towards bitcoin ETFs (read our article on this). Positive regulatory news from one of Asia's largest markets reinforces the optimism already sparked by the soft data.
Extreme fear despite the price gains
Notably, despite the clear price gains, underlying market sentiment remains stuck in ‘extreme fear’. That shows how cautious investors still are after a difficult stretch — a rally alone isn't enough for many to fully regain confidence.
What can you do with this?
For long-term investors, one strong day changes little about the strategy: DCA simply continues, in good weeks and bad. For more active traders, a quick rebound after a fearful period often comes with higher volatility in both directions — extra reason to keep positions manageable.
