What is Pepe?

Pepe (PEPE) is a memecoin, named after the well-known internet meme Pepe the Frog. According to its own website, the coin has nothing to do with Matt Furie, the creator of Pepe the Frog: it is merely a tribute to the meme. The website contrasts PEPE with the many dog-themed coins, whose time, according to the coin's creators, has passed.

PEPE is a token on Ethereum: as the website explains, you swap ETH for PEPE. The contract has been on Ethereum since April 2023. The website says the coin was launched without any announcement, without a presale and with no tax on buying or selling. The liquidity pool tokens have been burned, and the creators have given up ownership of the contract.

According to the website, the total supply is 420,690,000,000,000 PEPE: 420.69 trillion. So no more will be added.

The website itself is clear about this: PEPE is a memecoin with no intrinsic value and no expectation of financial return. There is, the website says, no formal team and no roadmap. According to its creators, the coin has no utility at all and is intended purely for entertainment.

Questions about this price

Where does the Pepe price come from?

From CoinGecko, which averages the price across the trading venues where Pepe is traded. Our database fetches that price every ten minutes; the time is shown next to the price.

Why is the price different from the one at my exchange?
