What is Bitcoin Cash?
Bitcoin Cash describes itself as fast, affordable and borderless electronic cash. It split off from bitcoin on 1 August 2017, at block 478558, after disagreement over how the network should grow.
Bitcoin Cash runs on proof-of-work with SHA-256, the same algorithm as bitcoin. Since 15 May 2024, the block size limit has grown along with usage, through the Adaptive Block Limit Algorithm (ABLA). In 2023, CashTokens were added: native tokens on the network, including NFTs.
There will never be more than 21 million BCH.
Bitcoin Cash is intended for payments, worldwide and in shops. According to bitcoincash.org, a transaction costs less than a cent, and a confirmed payment cannot be reversed.
