Kraken is removing 13 tokens from its platform. According to Kraken’s official notice (updated on 8 October 2026), deposits and trading will be switched off on 23 October 2026 at 14:00 UTC, which is 16:00 in the Netherlands. You can still withdraw until 29 January 2027 at 15:00 UTC. Whatever is still in your account will be sold automatically between 1 and 12 February 2027, sometimes for almost nothing.

The tokens affected are BMB, ELX, APU, BDXN, DUCK, BOS, U, OBOL, IDEX, FIS, UXLINK, ALTHEA and NOBODY. Below you can read what the dates mean, what you can do and what is not certain yet.

Kraken delisting in short

  • Who and what: Kraken is removing 13 tokens: BMB, ELX, APU, BDXN, DUCK, BOS, U, OBOL, IDEX, FIS, UXLINK, ALTHEA and NOBODY.
  • Trading and deposits stop: 23 October 2026 at 14:00 UTC (16:00 Dutch time). After that you can no longer buy, sell or deposit these tokens.
  • Withdrawals are still possible: until 29 January 2027 at 15:00 UTC (16:00 Dutch time). That is 98 days after trading ends.
  • Automatic sale: whatever is still in your account will be liquidated between 1 and 12 February 2027.
  • Risk: Kraken warns that the proceeds may be ‘significantly below recent reference prices’ and in some cases minimal or nil, because the markets for several of the tokens are small or inactive.
  • What you need to do: nothing, if you hold none of these tokens. If you do hold one, move it off Kraken as early as possible. Kraken says so itself.

Which dates apply?

All times come from Kraken’s notice and are in UTC. In the Netherlands it is two hours later on 23 October 2026 (summer time) and one hour later on 29 January 2027 (winter time). Portugal is one hour behind the Netherlands.

Between 23 October and 29 January you can therefore no longer buy or sell, but you can still withdraw. If you want to sell, you have to do it on Kraken before 23 October 14:00 UTC, or withdraw the tokens and trade them elsewhere.

What happens to your balance if you do nothing?

Kraken sells the remaining balance between 1 and 12 February 2027. The notice does not say at what price or in which currency. It does state, in so many words, that the proceeds may be far below recent reference prices. The reason: with a token that hardly anyone trades any more, a sell order quickly pushes the price down.

A worked example, for illustration only and not a forecast: suppose your balance is worth 100 euros at the reference price and the sale in an empty market brings in only 10 per cent of that. You are then left with 10 euros. If the proceeds drop to nil (Kraken writes ‘minimal or nil’), you get nothing. Nobody knows in advance how much it will be; that depends on the market at the time of liquidation.

What can you do?

  1. Check whether you hold any of the 13 tokens. Open your Kraken balance and search for the tickers. A small dust balance counts too.
  2. Sell before 23 October 14:00 UTC, if there is still a market. According to CryptoTicker (article of 8 October, updated on 16 October), 11 of the 13 tokens have a euro pair on Kraken; BMB and UXLINK only have a dollar pair. That is their count and not a statement from Kraken. Check it in your own account.
  3. Or withdraw. After 23 October you can still withdraw until 29 January 2027. Withdraw to a wallet whose keys you control yourself, or to another exchange that trades the token. First check that the wallet or exchange supports the token and the network, because the wrong network can cost you your balance. You can find help with choosing on our page on choosing a crypto wallet.
  4. Test with a small amount. If you are using an address for the first time, send a small amount first and the rest afterwards. Network fees may apply to the withdrawal; check Kraken for those.
  5. Do not wait until the end. Kraken itself encourages withdrawing as early as possible. Close to the deadline there are fewer days left to fix things if a withdrawal gets stuck.

If you use Kraken yourself, also read our Kraken review on costs and on what the platform does and does not do. Incidentally, a delisting says nothing in itself about the safety of the rest of your balance: it concerns this list of tokens, not the custody of your bitcoin or euros.

Is this new for European investors?

Exchanges delist small tokens fairly often. On 6 October we wrote about Bitvavo delists SWEAT: what about my coins?. The pattern is always the same: a short window in which you can still sell, then a period in which you can only withdraw, and then an automatic sale. At Kraken that withdrawal period is fairly long, at just over three months. If you want to check which providers hold a MiCA authorisation, use our page on MiCA authorisations.

What does this mean for you as a European investor?

Across Europe. The notice names no countries and says only that ‘geographic restrictions may apply’. Assume, therefore, that it applies to all of Kraken’s European customers, and check your account.

Tax. If you sell a token before the deadline, or let it be sold automatically, that may be a taxable event in your country. Whether a withdrawal to your own wallet counts as a sale differs from country to country. You can find an overview per country on crypto tax in Europe. Treat it as an explanation and not as advice.

Custody. If you left your tokens on the exchange, the exchange decides what happens. Anyone who withdraws to their own wallet keeps that in their own hands.

What it does not say. A delisting does not mean a project has failed, nor that the price will fall. It only means that Kraken no longer offers the token.

What is not certain yet

  • The liquidation price. Kraken names no price, no currency and no method. The proceeds may be minimal or nil.
  • The number of tokens. Earlier reports mentioned 14 tokens. CryptoTicker corrected that to 13 on 16 October (COPM is not part of the delisting). We follow the list in Kraken’s notice, with 13.
  • The euro pairs. The count that 11 of the 13 tokens have a euro pair comes from CryptoTicker and not from Kraken. Check it in your account.
  • Per country. The notice names no exceptions, but refers to Kraken’s legal information per jurisdiction. We could not find a list of countries.
  • The liquidation currency. The notice does not say in which currency the proceeds will be credited to your account.

This article is not investment advice. Crypto can lose a lot of value and you can lose your entire investment.
