Binance France will close all accounts of French customers on 31 December 2026. According to Cryptoast, CryptoActu and Crypto Briefing, Binance announced this in an email to customers, which appeared in the French trade press on 6 November. One date matters earlier than 31 December: anyone who still holds crypto in the account on 29 November pays a monthly fee of 0.025% of the balance, with a minimum of 10 USDC. The report concerns Binance France, not Binance worldwide.

Binance France account closure in short

  • Closure: all Binance France accounts close on 31 December 2026. In the email, Binance speaks of an ‘orderly cessation of activities’ in France.
  • Fees: from 29 November 2026, a monthly fee of 0.025% of the balance, minimum 10 USDC. If you empty the account before 29 November, you pay nothing.
  • What is still possible: withdrawals. According to Crypto Briefing and Cryptonomist, trading has already stopped for French customers; the sources differ on when deposits close (see below).
  • What can happen to remaining crypto: according to the email, if you have not withdrawn by 31 December, the account will be treated as inactive. That can lead to conversion, transfer or other handling of the crypto.
  • Closing voluntarily: possible at any time, including before 31 December.
  • Reason according to the sources: the end of the MiCA transitional period around 1 July 2026. At the time of writing, we could not open an official text from Binance or a supervisor.

What the email says, according to the sources

Four French and English trade outlets quote the same email and give broadly the same dates and amounts. We could not open a copy of the email or an announcement on Binance’s own site: Binance’s announcement pages returned an error from our environment (HTTP 405). Below is therefore what the sources write, with their names attached.

Worked example: what 0.025% does to a small balance

The fee is 0.025% of the balance or 10 USDC, whichever is higher. This is a worked example based on the rule as the sources describe it, not an amount from Binance itself. The minimum outweighs the percentage, as Crypto Briefing also notes: the percentage only wins above a balance of 40,000 USDC (10 divided by 0.00025).

Balance on 29 November0.025% of the balanceFee (the higher of the two)Share of the balance
100 USDC0.025 USDC10 USDC10%
500 USDC0.125 USDC10 USDC2%
1,000 USDC0.25 USDC10 USDC1%
5,000 USDC1.25 USDC10 USDC0.2%
40,000 USDC10 USDC10 USDC0.025%
100,000 USDC25 USDC25 USDC0.025%

According to the sources, a balance below 10 USDC is taken entirely by the fee. If there are two deductions, one after 29 November and one after 24 December, the fee on a small balance could be twice the minimum. Whether the second deduction follows the same rule is not stated in the sources we opened; so assume an upper limit of 20 USDC if you leave a small balance, and rather empty the account before 29 November.

Which date counts?

The closure date is 31 December, but the practical deadline is 29 November. Anyone with a balance on that day pays the first fee. The sequence according to the sources:

DateWhat happens according to the sources
29 NovemberReference date: the balance at that moment determines the fee
Within three days after 29 NovemberFirst deduction
After 24 DecemberSecond deduction
31 DecemberAccounts closed; remaining crypto may be converted, transferred or otherwise handled

So if you wait until the end of December, you pay the fee at least once and risk Binance deciding what happens to the rest. Emptying the account earlier costs nothing.

What does this mean for you as a European investor?

You have a Binance France account. Move your crypto out before 29 November. Send it to a wallet whose keys you hold, or to another exchange whose address you control yourself. Do a small test transfer first. You can read how to choose a wallet in how to choose a crypto wallet.

You live in France. The report concerns Binance France. A withdrawal to your own wallet is not a sale. As for the proposed French reporting obligation for wallets you manage yourself: that amendment was rejected on 4 November along with the first part of the budget and may be tabled again in the Senate, see France: declaring your own wallet from 100,000 euros.

You have an account in another country. The sources say nothing about customers outside France, and according to Cryptonomist only the Binance France accounts are affected, not the global platform. On Binance in the rest of Europe, we wrote earlier about the Binance withdrawals after the hack.

You are looking for another exchange. Check whether a provider is in the MiCA register: the overview of MiCA authorisations. You will find a comparison of exchanges with fees and authorisation at compare crypto exchanges. An authorisation says something about supervision, not about the quality or the cost of the service.

Beware of scammers. A closure where you have to act within a deadline is a gift for fake emails. Open the app or the site yourself and do not click links in a message. What Binance really sends is also shown in your own account.

What is not certain yet

  • The official text. We could not open the email or an announcement from Binance. All amounts and dates above come from trade media quoting the email: Cryptoast, CryptoActu, Crypto Briefing and Cryptonomist. If the official text differs, it takes precedence.
  • Whether deposits are already closed. Cryptoast writes that all deposits are now impossible. Crypto Briefing writes that deposits are blocked from 29 November. We do not know which wording is correct.
  • The second deduction. CryptoActu and Cryptoast mention a deduction after 24 December. Whether the same rule applies, and whether 10 USDC is then the minimum again, is not stated in the sources.
  • The MiCA date. The sources give 30 June or 1 July 2026 as the end of the transitional period. What exactly Binance France applied for and what the supervisor decided is not in the sources we opened. We make no statement on that.
  • What happens to remaining crypto. ‘Conversion, transfer or other handling’ is the wording from the email as Cryptoast quotes it; how that works in practice is not described.
  • Customers outside France. If Binance announces other countries, this piece must be the first to be updated.

This article is not investment advice. Crypto can fall sharply in value and you can lose your entire stake.
