The exchange MEXC is ending its service for customers in the Netherlands. According to Finance Magnates (25 August 2026), 16 November 2026 is the last day, and MEXC advises moving before 31 October 2026. At the time of writing on 27 October 2026, that leaves 4 days until the first date and 20 days until the second. MEXC itself says it has no MiCA authorisation; the Dutch supervisor AFM already issued a warning on 24 September 2025.

MEXC in the Netherlands in short

  • What is happening: MEXC is shutting down its service for Dutch customers. According to Finance Magnates, the last day is 16 November 2026.
  • Why: MEXC says it has no authorisation under MiCA, the European crypto regulation, for the EU and the EEA (according to crypto.news, based on a MEXC country list dated 21 October 2026).
  • What you need to do yourself: accounts and balances are not transferred automatically. You open an account with another provider, complete the identity check there and move your crypto yourself.
  • Which date applies: the sources give different dates (31 October, 16 November, and 23 October at Crypto Briefing). Follow the date in your own MEXC account or in the email from MEXC.
  • Alternatives MEXC mentions: Bybit EU and, according to TradeInformer, Kraken. Both are in the ESMA register.
  • The catch: nothing moves on its own. If you do nothing, you may lose access to your account after the end date; we could not find out what happens to a remaining balance then.

What is known so far

On 24 September 2025, the AFM published a warning about MEXC Global. According to the AFM, MEXC offers crypto services in the Netherlands without the required authorisation, actively targets Dutch consumers (including through a Dutch X account and the sponsorship of a Dutch blockchain conference) and is no longer registered in a commercial register, which makes it unclear where it is based. The AFM calls the products ‘very high risk’.

The wind-down followed in 2026. According to crypto.news (26 October 2026), MEXC suspended its euro services for Dutch users in March 2026, such as bank deposits, peer-to-peer trading and third-party payments. Customers have been split into four groups for a phased closure.

The dates from 29 September (23, 24 and 31 October) do not fit neatly with the 16 November from Finance Magnates; they may apply to different groups. There is no way to check that without MEXC's own announcement, which we could not open from our environment.

Where can you go?

MEXC mentions Bybit EU. Kraken reported a referral of Dutch customers in August. Both providers hold a MiCA authorisation in the ESMA register (as of 22 October 2026):

ProviderEntity in the registerSupervisorSince
BybitBybit EU GmbHFMA (Austria)28 May 2025
KrakenPayward Europe Solutions LimitedCentral Bank of Ireland25 June 2025

MEXC itself is not in that register, in line with what the company says. An authorisation tells you something about supervision, not about costs or quality; compare both providers on what you use. On our pages you can read more about the Bybit review and about all providers with a MiCA authorisation. Costs and terms can change; check them with the provider itself.

What does this mean for you as a European investor?

If you have a MEXC account in the Netherlands. Check your account and your email for the date that applies to you, and move early rather than late. According to crypto.news, open positions (such as futures) may be settled once the restrictions begin, which can mean costs or losses.

How to move safely. First send a small amount and check the address twice; a wrong address cannot be undone. You can also move a balance to your own address: see choosing a crypto wallet.

Outside the Netherlands. In the sources we found no separate arrangement for other countries. If you have a MEXC account elsewhere in the EU, check your account yourself; in its country list, MEXC says it has no MiCA authorisation for the whole EU and EEA.

Tax. For many people, the move itself is not a sale, but that depends on your country. See crypto tax in Europe.

Spotting scams. When a service closes, scammers often step into the company's place. MEXC says its staff never ask for passwords, seed phrases, payments or transfers via private messages.

What is not certain yet

  • The end date per customer. Finance Magnates gives 16 November, Crypto Briefing 23 October, and crypto.news a phased closure with 31 October and 16 November. We could not open MEXC's own announcement (access denied).
  • What happens to a balance after the end date. Crypto.news reports that remaining balances would go to a regulated custodian, but names no one and gives no terms.
  • How many customers are affected. This has not been published.
  • Which provider will be added. Bybit EU and Kraken are mentioned, in different reports. We found nothing on whether conditions are attached to a referral.
  • The official sources. The AFM warning was opened at the time of writing; we know the reports on MEXC's wind-down through trade media, not through MEXC.

This article is not investment advice. Crypto can lose a great deal of value and you can lose your entire investment.
