Solo mining: the odds of a whole block

Solo, you earn nothing per day, but if you find a block yourself, the whole reward is yours. These are the odds at this hashrate, per coin.

A chance, not a countdown. Every block is a new draw: you could find a block tomorrow or never, however long your miner runs.

How the calculator works

  • Pool earnings: your share of the network hashrate, times 144 blocks a day, times 3.125 BTC, times the price, minus the pool fee.
  • Scrypt: litecoin (576 blocks a day, 6.25 LTC) and dogecoin (1,440 blocks a day, 10,000 DOGE) are mined together; the earnings are the sum of both.
  • Electricity: power draw times 24 hours times your price per kWh. A month counts 30 days, a year 365.
  • Solo odds: the chance that your hashrate finds at least one block today or within a year, per coin, based on today's network hashrate. ‘On average once every so many years’ is an average, not a waiting time.
  • Price and network change every day, and network hashrate tends to rise. Today's result is no promise for next year.

Frequently asked questions

Is mining bitcoin at home profitable?

With a small home miner at a normal household price, usually not: the electricity costs more than a pool pays out. Enter your own price; the calculator shows the electricity price at which you break even.

Why does the result differ from what my pool pays?

Pools often pay out part of the transaction fees too, and each has its own fee and payout method. This calculator counts only the fixed block subsidy, so the real payout can be slightly higher.

What do the odds of finding a block mean?

Solo mining is a lottery: if you find a block yourself, you get the whole reward plus the transaction fees, for example 3.125 BTC or 3.125 BCH. The odds follow from your share of the network hashrate; the calculator works them out for bitcoin, bitcoin cash, litecoin, dogecoin and pepecoin.

Can I share my calculation?
